Treatment of quinsy with hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide (H202) has long been used in medicine as a disinfectant and deodorant means. They treated the wounds and inflamed skin or mucous membranes. In cosmetics peroxide is often used for cleaning and whitening face, as well as bleaching and coloring hair.
Meanwhile, in the last century were studies of intravenous infusions of hydrogen peroxide. First, experiments conducted on animals, but in the beginning of XX century. Some doctors have tried to use this medication to treat their patients. However, they noted a significant improvement in patients in general, and into the blood by hydrogen peroxide, oxygen rather successfully fought the infection. These doctors, researchers even recommended to apply in clinical practice, the procedure of intravenous hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide – a fairly cheap means. It is well recognized, of course, will inflict considerable damage to many pharmaceutical companies that produce expensive drugs less effective, but more profitable. Moreover, some doctors hydrogen peroxide not only not recognized, but also declared harmful to blood cells, internal organs. This approval is not justified by scientific experiments, but only their own speculations.
Realistic same studies show an absolute absence of harm and any side effects associated with internal use of hydrogen peroxide. Dr. William Douglas held a series of studies in the clinic and on the basis of his work written a book «The therapeutic properties of hydrogen peroxide», which has caused a boom in the Americas, and throughout the world. This book was also translated into Russian language, resulting in our country, too, developed an interest in this well-known and relatively cheap medicines. Some of Russia’s doctors began to talk seriously about the broader introduction of hydrogen peroxide in medical practice. They boldly make recommendations on the proper use of hydrogen peroxide, assuming that the usefulness of this drug has been fully proved experimentally.
Hydrogen peroxide is a colorless, transparent liquid, odorless or with little peculiar odor. It is easily decomposed into water and oxygen when exposed to light, by heating or contact with alkalis, with oxidizing and regenerating substances. This drug produces cleaning and deodorizing effect. Its aqueous solution is often used to cleanse wounds and ulcers. In addition, hydrogen peroxide has also a disinfectant and antiseptic properties and belongs to a group of antimicrobial, antiviral and antiparasitic funds.
The basic principle of drug action is the release of oxygen, resulting in strong oxidation, that is destruction. It is on this, and based its antiseptic action. When applying hydrogen peroxide to the damaged area of skin or mucous oxidized (ie, destroyed), there are bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc., is purely mechanical cleansing. In this regard, doctors often use hydrogen peroxide for the treatment of infected wounds. Product is available in an aqueous solution containing 2,7-3% hydrogen peroxide, and in the form of concentrated solution – perhydrol containing 2,75-3,3% peroxide. First used as a deodorant and disinfectant by dissolving 1-2 teaspoons in a glass of water. Usually it is used for washing and rinsing with stomatitis, caries, sore throat, gynecological diseases, etc.
Concentrated solution, or perhydrol, used for rinsing and lubricating with inflammatory processes of mucous membranes, as well as for the treatment of purulent wounds.
In medical practice also apply a solution of hydrogen peroxide concentration. To receive them use 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, or perhydrol, throwing water on it until the desired consistency.
The main mechanism of action of hydrogen peroxide is that when in contact with the tissues it breaks down into water and molecular oxygen. This reaction occurs under the influence of the enzyme catalase contained in any organic compounds. Oxygen is produced oxidizing effect on the surrounding organic components, including the microbes. This foam forms, which contributes to the mechanical purification of the surface tissue of different organisms, pus, etc.
Antimicrobial effect of hydrogen peroxide is used to rinse in quinsy and laryngeal diseases. However, this action is short-lived, so to achieve the effect should be to repeat the procedure. It used hydrogen peroxide solution is usually quite weak and is absolutely not irritate tissue treated surfaces.
When quinsy several times per day should gargle with antiseptic solutions. For this purpose, make good use of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or dissolve 1 tablet gidroperita in a glass of water. The same solution can be moistened cotton swabs and attach to the amygdala.
In severe cases should be referred to a doctor, who will appoint an individual course of medical treatment.
