Visual method used in European epidemiologic surveys
Probing has been criticized for several reasons: It may allow transmission of  cariogenic bacteria from infected sites, it can irreversibly traumatize potentially remineralizable noncavitated lesions of enamel and dentin, and it may provide no more accuracy in diagnosis than visual inspection alone, particularly in the fissures and on the posterior approximal surfaces.

Accordingly, a so-called European system of examination for surveys, based primarily on detailed visual examination, has been adopted by many epidemiologists.

The subjects clean their teeth before examination, the tooth surfaces are dried with compressed air, and the examination requires about 10 minutes per subject. It has been argued that under the prevailing disease conditions (low caries prevalence and slow progression) a visual technique that emphasizes specificity at the expense of some loss of sensitivity (for dentinal involvement) is to be preferred (for review, see Pitts, 1997).

mometasone furoate oienmtnt 0.1% works well on the irriatated spots. yet, the pediatricians told me to not use it often because it thins out the skin and leaves white patches. i use it on my daughter’s eczema too. she gets red patches on her cheeks and some spots on her forearm and calf. it gets real bad to the point when there is liquid oozing out. i use the oienmtnt once shes asleep, apply a very thin layer and the next morning it usually clears up i then i would use aquaphor. im looking into using sarna lotion. can be purchase at walgreens or cvs pharmacy. i treid cetaphil not any help. my friends that have ezcema that are adults use cetaphil bar soap and the lotion. some say gold bond works as well

It sounds like you oeerrdd one of those prefabricated dental guards which would not help you as much as a custom fitted one from your dentist. To make a properly fitting guard, your dentist will take molds of your teeth. The dental guard will be made such that only certain teeth contact when you bite together, thus preventing your jaw muscles from clenching down. This forces your jaw muscles to relax while you sleep. The guard will also be smaller and thinner, thus causing less drool. Talk to your dentist about making one for you. Good luck, and thanks for reading!

Yay, all the best! I was in ketosis for a great deal of Jan/Feb this year, and also did a fat fast in March when I was hanivg trouble getting back into ketosis. Probably don’t need to go to that extreme, especially with intermittent fasting. But I think you need to remain in ketosis for a sustained period to burn a significant amount of fat, since it tends to take a few days of cutting carbs before you ‘switch into fat-burning mode’. This is what I’ve read and what I’ve experienced, anyway. If you only get your carbs from eggs and a couple of cups of salad veggies, you might be able to stay in ketosis even with your weight-training needs. Let me know how you go! 🙂

Lana, July 13, 2009 at 12:49 pm I had Zoom done this morning. I must say, the datenl assistant was very detail oriented. The prep time took about 45 minutes. I had lots of protection on my lips. Lots of gauze over my lips and in my mouth. Then she proceeded with the white substance that covered all of my exposed gums. She even allowed me to check her work with a mirror. After 3 fifteen minute sessions, I ABSOLUTELY love the results! To even top of the fabulous results I found out that I was only charged $195.00 rather than $399.00. They were doing a special! I love my dentist and his staff!

Laura, Chandler AZ, November 9, 2008 at 8:31 am I found this great teeth whitening spaceil googling teeth whitening and I am glad I did I love my white teeth. Thanks AZ Family Dental! My Teeth whitening experience was great, I just sat back and listened to the radio, I got 3 treatments of 15 minutes. Total time was about 1.5hrs. Most of the time was prep work. My teeth turned out about 8 shades whiter!!!!! I couldn’t be happier!Thank You

This is a really uuesfl write-up. It truly sparked my curiosity on quite a few details. I agree with most of the elements and I’m currently considering the others. Thanks a lot for keeping your information so appealing. http://akjpgttetz.com wathsgae [link=http://uervcbmzd.com]uervcbmzd[/link]

Articles for theme “caries”:

Clinical visual-tactile methodThis method is based on a combination of light, mirror, and gentle probing and is used in most epidemiologic surveys in the United States. Caries is diagnosed if the tooth meets the American Dental Association criteria of softened enamel that catches an explorer and resists its removal (the so-called sticky fissure) or allows the explorer to penetrate proximal surfaces under moderate-to-firm probing pressure. Lighting is usually adequate, but the teeth are neither cleaned nor dried.

Visual method used in general practiceThe visual method, a combination of light, mirror, and the probe for detailed examination of every tooth surface, is by far the most commonly applied method in general practice worldwide. Although sensitivity is low and specificity is high, it may be possible to detect:1. Noncavitated enamel lesions (D1) on the free smooth surfaces (buccal and lingual), most anterior approximal surfaces, and the opening of some fissures 2. Clinically detected “cavities” limited to the enamel (D1, D2)3.

Diagnosis and Registration of Carious LesionsIntroductionThe coronal carious lesion starts as a clinically undetectable subsurfacedemineralization. With further progression, it will eventually become clinicallydetectable, and can then be classified according to type, localization, size, depth, andshape (see Table 15).Apart from for the occult fissure lesion penetrating deeply into the dentin, dilemmasin clinical detection and registration arise not with the advanced lesion, but primarilywith the early lesion (confined to the outer enamel), the noncavitated lesion of dentin, recurrent caries (around the margins of restorations), and subgingival root caries.

Root cariesAccording to Hix and O’Leary (1976), root surface caries is defined as “a cavitationor softened area in the root surface which might or might not involve adjacent enamelor existing restorations (primary and recurrent lesions).” Nyvad and Fejerskov (1987)introduced the definitions of active and inactive carious lesions of the root. Rootcaries may be classified as primary or secondary, cementum or dentin, active orinactive, and with or without cavitation (see Table 15). The lesions can also beclassified according to the texture (soft, leathery, or hard) and the color (yellow, lightbrown, dark brown, or black).

Dentin cariesWhether or not an active, noncavitated carious lesion in enamel will progress into thedentin and the rate of progression are determined by many factors:1. The overall estimated caries risk (C1 to C3) of the individual2. The rate at which the enamel lesion has developed3. The size, depth, and site of the enamel lesion4. The posteruptive age of the enamel5. The future efficacy of self-care and supplementary needs-related preventiveprogramsOn the approximal surfaces of the posterior teeth, the progression of a carious lesionthrough the enamel into the dentin can easily be followed on serial bitewingradiographs.
